“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone” - Dr. Loretta Scott
At the end of each month, we will feature our favourite things in a blog post, including what we may be listening to, watching, reading, etc. If you are looking for recommendations for podcasts, shows, books and more, this is the article for you! We would love for you to share what your favourites are in the comments section.

How I Built This with Guy Raz - This podcast is one of my absolute favourites! I am someone who loves to learn more about people and their stories. It’s what empowers me! This podcast dives into the stories of entrepreneurs and innovators from some of the best known companies including, Shopify, Canva, Dyson and Lululemon. I find Guy (the host) to be a very intelligent interviewer as he dives deep into the journeys’ of entrepreneurs and really tells a story through his questions. This podcast was what inspired the soon to launch ‘Process Lab’ component of our initiative, where we’ll be featuring female entrepreneurs and their stories.
How to Consciously Design Your Ideal Future - I am a sucker for anything related to productivity and consciously designing your life to foster growth. This book, written by Benjamin P. Hardy, is a collection of articles that provide
advice on how to become a better version of yourself. Although I do not agree with all the tips in this book, I have to appreciate that the writer provides concrete ways to take control of your life. Rather than just mentioning ‘what’, the writer takes it a step further to “how” you can build your ideal future.

Podcasts
With everything going on in the world, from the health issues and the pandemic to racial injustice and politics, I’ve found value in listening to podcasts such as The Daily by the New York Times or Front Burner by CBC. These two podcasts offer a (mostly) unbiased account of what’s going on in the world in bite-sized chunks that you can listen to on your walk to work.
Books
I am a long-time listener of the Call Your Girlfriend podcast by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow, two long-distance best friends who discuss issues from pop culture to feminism and everything in between. They recently came out with a book called “Big Friendship: How we keep each other close”, and have been intrigued by their approach to discussing female friendships and the intricacies involved.
Other cool things! (Instagram account Girls Leadership)
Lastly, I grew interested in the work done at Girls Leadership (@girlsleadership on Instagram), an organization that teaches girls to exercise the power of their voice. I believe strongly in the power of early education and empowerment, and its long-lasting effects on having the passion to lead. They have also adapted their programming (such as after school teaching sessions) nicely due to the pandemic.
